BASIC PURPOSE:
To Lead, control, and direct the Mechanical team in a way that ensures a safe timely, efficient, and profitable delivery in meeting the company’s requirements. Should oversee multiple projects simultaneously, progress & reports, identify needs and department developments


EDUCATIONAL OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
University degree (BE /B. Tech) in relevant discipline or Engineer with at least 10 Years of engineering experience in the industry. At least 5 Years at a supervisory level.


TYPICAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1.   To evaluate the Mechanical engineering demands of projects and assess the consequent time/manpower requirements.
2.   To provide the manpower resources and tools required to execute the project.
3.   To allocate work to departmental staff.
4.   To monitor the progress of Mechanical engineering documents through the computerised Document Management System (DMS) and the Document Controller.
5.   To review specifications, Mechanical data sheets and drawings.
6.   To ensure that the management and administrative systems and controls are followed.
7.   To ensure that the Safety Management System and Quality Assurance requirements are followed throughout the engineering phase.
8.   To provide technical expertise, drive, and guidance to Mechanical engineering activity.
9.   To examine and find solutions for complex engineering challenges.
10.  To discuss the project deliverables with Engineering Project Managers and to ensure their timely and cost-effective execution.
11.  To ensure that all relevant QMS and Departmental Working Instructions are correctly followed in the engineering phase.
12.  To represent the department at internal/external Company meetings.
13.  To ensure all facilities & tools are available for department staff.
14.  To evaluate bids and documentation from suppliers.
15.  To advise the Senior Manager of all extraordinary matters arising in the Mechanical activities
16.  To keep abreast of relevant developments in Mechanical engineering with respect to the metals and mining industry in general and the Company's business in particular.
17.  To motivate the departmental staff and encourage ideas and engineering solutions which enhance Company performance.
18.  To perform preliminary assessments of job applicants, interview short-listed candidates and make recommendations on suitability.
19.  To enhance staff skill levels with respect to market or customer requirements. Ensure adequate training is provided to staff to discharge their duties.
20.  To conduct regular staff meetings.
21.  To perform routine personnel tasks, including regular evaluations.
22.  To attend or depute staff to training courses, seminars etc. when required.
23.  To ensure that the Mechanical engineering manning levels and associated costs are constantly matched to the Company's needs and interests.
24.  Any other relevant activities as defined by the Management.
